1) Facebook: We checked out the new videos that the Native Studies 20 class posted on the RJC Peace and Justice Studies Forum page on facebook.
2) Discussion: Ideas for the Peace and Justice Coffee House (Thursday May 10, 2012). A lot of these sound really good. Let's get a good start on these!
3) Work Period: "Peace and Justice Issues Report" (due Thursday May 4, 2012). I really want these to be in on time.
History 20
1) Movie: We continued watching 'Gandhi'. I am still about what assignment I will give with this. We'll talk about it as a class after the movie. For now, just watch it, and remember to focus on how Gandhi used peaceful resistance.
2) Submit: Remember that Pg. 665, Qs 1-7 are due today.
Native Studies
1) Class Presentation: Mario, Say Eh Htoo, and Hery did their "Facing the Problems" rap today. Great job guys! Look for this on our facebook page.
2) New Assignment: "Band Poster" (due Thursday April 4, 2012). More details to come about this one, but for now you need to research a band that embraces the 'resistance movement'. Native peoples around the world have used music as a form of resistance and we want to explore this.

Ryan's Classes for Wednesday March 28, 2012
History 20
We began watching the movie 'Gandhi' (about the first half hour). For tomorrow, just go straight to the chapel. This is a long movie, and it does drag in parts, but it is worth it. History doesn't just happen in Europe, and this movie highlights the career of Mohatmas Gandhi and his evolution from a privileged lawyer to a freedom fighter who lead his nation peacefully to independence. I believe there is much that we can learn from this movie as is gives us an insider's view into Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence. His ideas can be a template for how we can also fight for freedom in our own time.
Native Studies 20
1) Preparation Time: for the Presentations (about 10 minutes)
2) Presentations: "Facing the Problems" presentations were today! 3 groups weren't ready and need to go tomorrow.
These were so well done! I really appreciated everyone's involvement. Check out the videos on facebook and youtube.
Peace and Justice
1) Facebook Time: Check out Landon and Matt Remenda's rap on our facebook page
2) Work Period: "Peace and Justice Issues Report" (due Thursday April 4, 2012)
Adriana Koehn, the MCC rep that hosts us in Guatemala, has liked our facebook page! She let me know that she is encouraged by all of the work you are doing here, in Canada, on behalf of the people of Guatemala and El Salvador. Remember, all of our little acts, like drops of water, can create a bucket of change in the world. Also, our inaction or negative acts can cause harm. Your actions matter!

2) Lecture, Notes, and Reading: Section 5: "National Struggles Outside Europe"
3) Assignment: Pg. 665, Qs 1-7 (due Thursday March 29, 2012)
- it is important to remember that Europe is not the only place that history happens. In this section we will look at some important events that took place in the world during the 20s and 30s. We will also spent some time looking at the life of Gandhi, and will begin a movie about him tomorrow. India is the world's largest democracy, and is a free market economy. Ryan's Classes for Tuesday March 20, 2012
Native Studies: Work period for your "Facing the Problems" rap/class presentation
History 20: I lectured on how the stock market works. It was amazing. I talked the whole fifty minutes. Tyler Martens only giggled once, though, so I have had better days.
Peace and Justice: I gave you your mark updates today. Later I found some assignments that some of you handed in, they were hidden between some history assignments. We talked a bit about the latest KONY 2012 fallout with the producer getting arrested, then it was a work period. Remember you book studies are due on Monday, and your Peace and Justice reports are due next Thursday.
Peace,
Ryan
