Today we finished reading section 2 of the Louis Riel comic.  The other sections will finish tomorrow.  I also assigned Chapter 8 questions from the "Bastards and Boneheads" textbook.  These are due for both sections on Friday.  The section that missed will receive them tomorrow. 



I went to the Leonard Cohen concert last night.  It was a great show.  Cohen is a poet, and Canadian icon.  Here is a picture from the concert.

I handed out a copy of the new article "Outlook Looks Brighter" from the business section of the news.  We had a class discussion about the importance of exports to the Canadian economy.  The remaining time in class was working time to read "The Confederation Waltz" handout.

Current Affairs News Article: "Petronas rejections proves need to abolish 'net benefit' test"

Students read the story in groups and discussed its meaning in terms of Canada's historic dependence as an exporting/importing economy.  We read the curriculum guide and applied this story to some other historic themes in Canadian history and to Foundational Objectives 2&3.  If you were absent you need to do this on your own to get marks for this.

Bible Survey

Today we read Genesis Chapters 2 and 3, the second creation story and the Cain and Abel story.  We learned about the cycle of sin and forgiveness that will act as a template for many other stories in the Bible.  The cycle of sin: 1) temptation, 2) sin, 3) consequence, and 4) restoration.  The "Creation Stories" handout was due today. 

History 30

Today was a bit of a catch up day.  Girls' soccer and the Football team were gone for games.  We reviewed for the exam on Friday and watched "The Battle of the Plains of Abraham" on the big screen.

Today I assigned two new, connected assignments.  Students are expected to formulate both an Aboriginal and European (French) worldview c. 1600 AD using the worksheets provided (see below).  During the this week we will be watching the movie "Black Robe" and the movie can be the primary source for information for this assignment.  I handed out a an overview of the movie in class (see below).
